The Vintage Aero Flying Museum, home of The LaFayette Foundation, held a fly-in/drive-in at Platte Valley Airpark (18V) on May 17, Armed Forces Day.
The daylong event featured flying demonstrations, aircraft from World War I and World War II, antique aircraft, experimental aircraft, ultralights, light sport aircraft and radio-controlled aircraft. Other highlights included antique cars, living history displays and the largest collection of WWI aviation, Golden Age of aviation and WWII memorabilia in the West.
A pancake breakfast started the fun for the whole family; later, a barbeque lunch was served in the main hangar. Nearly 1,000 people enjoyed the activities throughout the day with perfect weather conditions.
Andy Parks, Vintage Aero Flying Museum executive director, dressed in an authentic WWI aviator uniform, helped bring aviation history to life by organizing the event.
