California Pilots Association to hold Annual Meeting Oct. 6 and 7Sep '06
The annual meeting of the California Pilots Association will be held on Friday and Saturday, October 6 and 7, at the Radisson Hotel at Santa Maria Airport. There will be an abundance of on-air¬port parking, and fuel discounts to those who fly in. There's no cost to attend, and it's open to everyone.

The event will start off with a "meet and greet" wine-tasting session on Friday evening. A great lineup of aviation speakers will follow a short business meeting on Saturday. Lunch will be served, but reservations are required.

The Saturday morning featured speakers will include Brian Terwilliger, who will be discussing his film, "One Six Right," and the importance of California's general aviation airports, and general aviation icon Clay Lacy, who will be speaking about his experiences and GA's importance to the state and coun¬try. California Assemblyman Abel Maldonado, a private pilot, will discuss the importance of GA to the state as well, and Gary Rice, the Santa Maria airport manager, will talk about improvements to the airport and issues he faces.

An afternoon panel conducted by John Pfeifer, AOPA's California representa¬tive, will reveal the be¬hind-the-scenes details regarding the closure of Rialto Airport, and how it applies to other airports. Pfeifer has worked tirelessly on behalf of gen¬eral aviation in California and has significant insight regarding the many issues facing California's GA airports.

For room reservations, call the Radisson Hotel Santa Maria at 866-292-4676, and notify the reservation clerk you are with the California Pilots Association. The luncheon is $17 per person; for reservations, email cpa@calpilots.org or call 800-319-5286, no later than Oct. 1. For more info, visit www.santamariaairport.com and www.calpilots.org.
