Four Denver Broncos Cheerleaders were on hand to autograph posters.
A proud Fay Myers, 83, cut the ribbon at the grand opening of Fay Myers Motorcycle World South, at 9700 E. Arapahoe Road, on May 11.
Fay Myers Motorcycle World, offering motorcycles, all terrain vehicles and personal watercraft, has been serving the metro area since their first location opened at 2015 W. Alameda in 1948.
Fay Myers, the largest dealership in the state and one of the largest in the country, offers brand names such as Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Ducati, KTM, Husaberg and Husqvarna.
“We have a huge inventory,” said Jim Krebs, advertising manager. “There are always a lot of motorcycles in stock; you can come to either store and see a large variety of different brands and styles of motorcycles.”
That variety includes brand new as well as used vehicles. Fay Myers also has a large parts and accessories department and presently offers service at the original location. The south location service department will soon be open.
As one of the lowest priced dealers in town, Krebs said Fay Myers offers “terrific deals.”
“We can do that because of our volume,” he said.
The huge showroom was buzzing but had plenty of room.
One of the first motorcycle dealers in Denver, Fay Myers originally set up shop to offer English brands of motorcycles. Now retired, his son Gary owns and runs the business.
“Fay still comes in here once in a while to say hi to everybody,” Krebs said. “He’s a terrific guy.”
To the shock and dismay of the Myers, their employees and customers as well, a fire, on Jan. 2, 2002, devastated Fay Myers’ original facility at 2005 W. Alameda, long the hub of motorcycle activity in Colorado.
The fire, which took several hours to contain, destroyed their showroom, in which were approximately 450 brand new motorcycles, as well as the service department.
Fay Myers Motorcycle World Central is now just east of that original location, at 2005 W. Alameda.
“We have a warehouse three blocks north of that location and we still had a good supply of motorcycles there, which allowed us to get back into business real quickly,” said Krebs.
Trials Riders from the Rocky Mountain Trials Association staged three demonstrations.
At the time, Fay Myers announced they were rebuilding and would come back “bigger and stronger than ever.” With the showroom set up on the lower level of another building in their complex, Fay Myers reopened six days later.
Fay Myers is one of the few motorcycle stores to have gone to the forefront in terms of legislative efforts.
“That affects both the off-highway industry and street bikes,” Krebs said. “We’re very active politically in the land use arena for the off-highway activist.”
Fay Myers also supports the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and Motorcycle Safety Foundation, supplying instructors with units upon which to teach.
An offshoot of Fay Myers, L&M Productions (which stands for Lloyd Liebetrau, general manager, and Gary Myers, owner), provides maps of Colorado, Utah and Idaho, showing numerous places to go off-highway (on marked and mapped trails) on dirt bikes. The maps come with a companion video.
On Fay Myer’s website, motorcycle enthusiasts can order parts accessories, list used motorcycles, and browse race listings and photographs, as well as motorcycle club information.
