Big Gavel for General Aviation
With Congressman Jim Oberstar poised to take over the chairmanship of the Transportation Committee, general aviation now has clout! Oberstar says that the national transportation infrastructure has suffered under President Bush: “We need to make real investments in our airports.” Oberstar is widely revered as the congressman that has the most knowledge about aviation issues. AOPA President Phil Boyer characterized Oberstar as a friend of general aviation who has historically opposed air traffic control privatization efforts and is skeptical of changes to the FAA funding systems. “We can be assured of a fair hearing from people who understand aviation and aren’t beholden to the White House,” Boyer said.
With over 621,000 names, Airport Journals database represents the largest list of American aviation citizenry. Even with old friends of aviation in high places, it’s always a good idea to let your elected officials know what you think.

The fourth annual Living Legends of Aviation awards ceremony will take place on January 25. The Hyatt Regency Century Plaza will host the event with more than 400 guests and Legends scheduled to attend. Al Ueltschi will receive the coveted Lifetime Aviation Entrepreneur award with Alan and Dale Klapmeier receiving the Aviation Entrepreneur of the Year award. Bob Hoover will be honored with a special Freedom of Flight award.
