To celebrate the 80th anniversary of Charles A. Lindbergh’s New York to Paris flight, the Lindbergh Foundation and Chandelle Winery of Sonoma, Calif., are offering a special limited edition labeled wine, “The 19th Hour, The Spirit of St. Louis.” The 2007 Lindbergh Award Celebration in St. Paul, Minn., as well as at other events and celebrations held nationwide during this 80th anniversary year, have featured Chandelle Wines.
The original artwork for the new label, created by famed aviation artist Keith Ferris and badged with a special 80th anniversary medallion, is now available on bottles of Chandelle 2004 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon and 2005 Chardonnay Sonoma County wines. A portion of the sales will go to assist the work of the Lindbergh Foundation, which supports technological solutions to improve the environment for a sustainable future.
For more than 20 years, Chandelle Winery has held a unique niche in the wine industry, bottling award-winning wines, labeled with a series of aviation art editions. Ferris is a premier American aviation artist and longtime friend of Chandelle’s owners, the Arnold family. He’s perhaps most widely known for his dramatic depiction of B-17s in a 75-foot-wide mural, “Fortresses under Fire,” in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Woody Dahlberg of Valley Hill Design in Minneapolis, Minn., created the special anniversary medallion.
Chandelle Winery is located on the historic Arnold property, El Rancho Feliz, in the Sonoma Valley Wine Country. Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh were friends of Gen. Henry “Hap” Arnold. Arnold, who was one of only five five-star generals and was chief of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. The general’s grandson Robert Arnold, and his wife Kathy, now own and operate the winery.
This 80th Anniversary of the New York to Paris Flight edition will be available from Chandelle Winery through the end of 2007. Only a small number of cases will be released to the public and will become collector’s items.
