Airbus flew the blended winglet technology of Aviation Partners, Inc. (API), on a company-owned Airbus 320. These winglets were specifically designed for the A320 and were tested in Toulouse, France, on Dec. 17, 2008.

Dick Friel, senior vice president of marketing for API, said “We expect the performance to mirror that achieved on other jet aircraft using API’s blended winglet technology. If analyses, including market and financial findings, provide a positive result, Airbus and API would offer the blended winglet for the entire A320 family of aircraft.”

API developed the patented blended winglet technology, which provides fuel savings and green technology. Blended winglets are now flying on over 3,000 private and commercial jets worldwide. API estimates that blended winglets have saved the industry millions of gallons of jet fuel, and API projects that by 2014, winglets will have saved in excess of 5 billion gallons of fuel.
