American Legend Aircraft Company, which produces the Legend Cub, is constructing a new facility that will house its aircraft production operations and a new customer delivery center. The location of the new facilities will remain on Sulphur Spring Municipal Airport (KSLR) in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Groundbreaking took place in November 2005, and construction is presently underway for two buildings. A 20,000-square-foot hangar will be used for aircraft fabrication, assembly and R&D for future projects. An adjacent 5,000-square-foot hangar will be used for sales and marketing. By continuing to use the 21,000-square-foot hangar space currently under lease, the company’s facilities will be more than doubled to 45,000 square feet.

“The new facilities will provide us with an opportunity to further increase our production capabilities,” said Tim Elliott, president of American Legend Aircraft Company.

Production capacity is expected to increase from the current four aircraft per month to eight aircraft per month by utilizing the new facilities. As production of the Legend Cub increases, the current base of 40 employees will be expanded.

Bryan Hurley, vice president of manufacturing, said the company’s goal for the new plant is to scale up manufacturing capacity to meet scheduled deliveries and reduce lead times for future customers.

“With the new buildings, we’re able to create a natural flow from the component level through final assembly operations,” Hurley said. “These new facilities allow us to start with a clean sheet of paper to design a more efficient manufacturing operation.”

The Legend Cub is a two-place, single-engine piston-powered aircraft designed to meet light-sport aircraft category certification requirements. Propelled by a 100-hp Continental O–200 engine with electric start, the aircraft is equipped with optional floats and is capable of water takeoffs and landings.
