John W. Myers, Janice Merriweather and Gen. Jack Dailey pause on the red carpet.

Thank you for a lovely evening. I’m so grateful I was able to be there with John (Myers). As you probably know, he passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 31. I’ve worked for John for 27 years and he will be truly missed. He was the real deal and a fine gentleman! I was glad to see several pictures of him in your beautiful book.

Janice Merriweather

Dear Jerry:

Jenine and I were delighted to attend the Living Legends of Aviation annual dinner, and I’m truly pleased it was such a great success.

Warm regards,
Gregory R. Dillon

Jerry:

Congratulations on what I understand was an outstanding dinner. The senior executives who represented NBAA, Kathleen Blouin and Connie Penne, gave glowing reports of a truly world-class event. Again, please accept my apologies for not being able to be with you. It would have been a tremendous honor.

All the best,
Ed Bolen

Dear Jerry and Laurie:

What a fantastic aviation event! It’s one of those special things in life that makes a person feel part of something exciting. You have really hit the industry “up front and personal.” You, your family and company have struck a chord in our hearts. Compliments to your staff, Di Freeze and the “Cliffhangar” also.

Dear Jerry and Justin:

The Living Legends of Aviation event last Thursday was wonderful and a great success. This year’s event was very attractively put together and coordinated, and it’s clear that it attracted a stellar group of aviators. The group from Spectrum really enjoyed the night. Thank you very much for having us there to join in the festivities. We look forward to continuing to read Airport Journals and to following your continued growth and success.

With Best Regards,
Austin Blue

Jerry:

You and your crew have certainly come a long way since starting the Living Legends five years ago. I think it’s what you would call the “Big Time.”

John Fisher

Di:

I just finished reading the Legends book you handed out at the dinner. What fascinating reading!

It was wonderful seeing you in L.A. and a special privilege to be at your table. I’ve been reading your book and I think it’s fantastic. You’re making a great contribution to aviation by capturing these stories. You do it so extensively and splendidly. We’re all very grateful to you.

Fondly,

Linden Blue

Dear Jerry and Laurie:

This is an overdue thank you and hearty congratulations for putting on such a spectacular event! I know well how much work an event like that takes, so kudos for making it a reality. Everyone I’ve spoke with was blown away by the evening and the ambiance. You sure attracted a star-studded crowd!

All the best,

Dear Jerry:

Now that I’m home from attending your stellar event at the Beverly Hills Hilton, I can reminisce. I cannot describe how very much I appreciate the wonderful attention shown to me by your one-in-a-million family. Also, my thanks to you for your hard work and expense to provide this annual get-together. I’m humbled to be included.

Very Best Regards,
Tom Danaher

Di:

I congratulate you for writing such a historical book! It’s fabulous and the photos are terrific! “Living Legends” has honored such noteworthy individuals. I commend you and the Airport Journals team.

Warmly,
Carol L. Osborne, Aviation Historian

Di:

I returned from Portugal last night and found your book waiting. It’s really a great book! Very impressive. It looks like a project of a lifetime, but I know you do many other things so I’m quite amazed. Thanks for including me, and I hope I can make the next event.

Best!
Patty Wagstaff

Dear Mr. Lips:

I would like to thank you for the August publication of the excellent article, “Robin Olds: Getting to War Wasn’t Always Easy,” by Di Freeze and Deb Smith, which I found through the Internet. The article is outstanding. It’s, by far, the best and most comprehensive article I’ve ever read about my dad—and there are hundreds! I am a first-time author, currently working on a book of my dad’s memoirs he started writing more than 15 years ago, and have gained new appreciation for writers!

Also, kudos to your staff for the event you recently held. Several friends who attended told me about the nice video tribute to fallen legends, which included my dad and was narrated by Morgan Freeman.

Best regards,
Christina Olds
