Mid Island Air Services, Inc., with Michael Mancuso Airshows, is now the authorized dealer for the Flight Design CT in the metro New York City area. Mid Island’s sales and service area includes Long Island, New York City, northern New Jersey and southern New York.

“We’re very pleased to have someone of Michael Mancuso’s stature join us as a Flight Design CT dealer,” said Tom Peghiny, president of Flight Design USA, U.S. importer. “Michael is a well-known performer, but he’s also a very experienced pilot who benefits from three generations of family business in general aviation. We feel his choice of the CT says a lot about the airplane.”

Passionate about flying, Mancuso said he loves to encourage people to learn to fly so they can experience the joy for themselves.

“I’ve been around GA my whole life; unfortunately, I’ve seen the cost of flying leave most enthusiasts behind,” he said. “With the advent of the sport pilot program, learning to fly is now more accessible than ever before. I think the Flight Design CT represents the very best in this new market.”

Mancuso is a leading air show performer in the United States and was the Bill Barber Showmanship Award winner in 2001. He flew with the Northern Lights Aerobatic Team until its retirement in 2000. He now flies his Extra 300 under sponsorship from Klein Tools. The veteran of more than 500 air show performances has taught other pilots in his Gyroscopic Obsessions aerobatic school since 1995.

Since 1946, three generation of the Mancuso family have provided flying services and flight school operations in the Long Island area through Mid Island Air Services. Today, Mid Island offers facilities at two airports, L.I. MacArthur Airport and Brookhaven Airport. The latter facility (HWV) is the headquarters for Mid Island’s Light-Sport Aircraft where the company will hangar its new Flight Design CT.

Since the CT’s introduction in 1997, more than 700 aircraft have been delivered. More than 100 CTs have been registered as special light-sport aircraft in the U.S. The 98 percent carbon fiber, two-place CT features a 49-inch wide cabin and 671 pounds of useful load. It’s powered by a 100-hp Rotax 912S engine and equipped with a BRS ballistic parachute as standard equipment. With a top speed of 120 knots, CT economy cruises at 112 knots, stalls at 39 knots and can fly more than 1,000 miles nonstop.
