Excluding commercial and military aircraft, there are nearly 20,000 jet aircraft flying around this country with our nation’s top business leaders on board—averaging six trips per month with 2.8 executives riding in the back of the aircraft on each trip. Piston aircraft used primarily by entrepreneurs and small business owners represent another important segment of the business aviation portion of GA. Just as fractional jet ownership has added incremental business, making the whole business aviation pie bigger, the new light jets are making a significant impact on business aviation. Like the Internet in the ’90s, there’s only speculation as to what the impact will be, but for certain they will continue to push the speed and efficiencies of doing business.

Our Airport events give us at Airport Journals the opportunity to see firsthand what aircraft are selling and who are buying, and it’s important that we continue to involve all the airport citizenry with our airport events, as well as inviting the area’s business owners, leaders and all individuals who fit the demographic profiles. Many of the attendees at our “airport events” are new to aircraft ownership, fractional ownership, charter use, or other general aviation services. Much like the piston market of the ’70s, new people are entering the turbin class market, as aircraft are becoming an increasingly necessary tool for small and medium size businesses to stay competitive. The ability to fly direct to smaller airports close to their business meetings, the growing concern with security and wasted time, and just the way the Internet has accelerated business, business aircraft are increasingly necessary to stay competitive.
