It’s been a rough, snowy winter, and as spring approaches, many are anxious to clean and redecorate their homes. A good place to start is Rumours, a boutique specializing in old-world and cottage-style furniture, accessories, flowers and gifts. It’s located six miles west of Centennial Airport, in the Hobby Lobby shopping center at South Quebec and County Line Road.

Founded in 1990 as a flower wholesaler, it was originally called Thru the Woods. In the winter of 2003, the company changed its focus and Rumours was born. Business has been so good that Rumours added a temporary Christmas store at Aspen Grove Shopping Center devoted solely to holiday décor.

Rumours is known for constantly changing its look. Today, it’s decorated primarily in warm Mediterranean reds and yellows and Parisian white and pastels. The store currently has extravagantly designed floral arrangements; wreaths and swags adorn the room and custom flower arranging is available.

At Rumours, fairy dolls are abundant in a room dedicated to the sparkly nymphs.

Interior designers say the best way to fill an empty wall is with framed art. Rumours has a vast selection of elegant pieces, including canvas art paintings. Artist renditions of buildings, flowers and landscapes look like they came straight from the Louvre, but are priced at only $250 to $800. Rumours has antique-looking round wall clocks in a variety of sizes and distressed finishes. The boutique also offers quaint lighting options, ranging from jumbo-sized candlesticks with hearty resin bases, down to miniature, delicate, beaded chandeliers.

Rumours’ most unique items are the furniture pieces, handcrafted locally by Bello Designs. Some one-of-a-kind tables, shelves and dressers are painted with a chic, matte-black finish, ideal for an Italian decor. Others are whitewashed, with rusty hardware and peeling paint, for a cozy French countryside look.

Rumours also offers unique gifts such as reading glasses, change purses and soaps. Fairy dolls are abundant in a room dedicated to the sparkly nymphs.

Shoppers who visit Rumours for decorating ideas may feel a bit overwhelmed with its 3,600 square feet of space, packed with goodies. But they needn’t worry; decorating consultants are available. For $85 an hour, in-home consultants help customers accessorize their homes. The experienced designers have decorated many homes in the area. They’ve won many awards, including seven consecutive blue ribbons from the annual ArtReach Festival of Trees and a first-place award for floral design in L’Esprit de Noel Holiday Home Tour, held every year near the Central City Opera House. In addition, Rumours contributed in the 2003 Parade of Homes, winning even more blue ribbons.

Rumours merchandise is constantly changing and offers something for everybody. It’s time to get out of that winter funk and start decorating! Watch for an additional store that the owners hope to open later this year.

Rumours is located at 8223 S. Quebec Street, Suite L. For more information, call 720-200-4090 or visit [http://www.rumoursdecor.com].
