Harry Mathews, one of Colorado’s most congenial hosts, recently flung open the doors of Vintage Sales again to celebrate the release of “Wheels: A Passion for Collecting Cars.” The coffee table book, published by Harry N. Abrams Inc., is a joint effort between author Stuart Leuthner and photographer William Taylor. It showcases the incredible collections of several private collectors, as well as profiling the men who own the cars, motorcycles and even some aircraft within the pages.
Four of those collectors—Mathews, author Clive Cussler, Mitchell Motors founder Roger Mitchell and Rocky Mountain Harley-Davidson owner Vinny Terranova—were on hand on Feb. 25 to sign copies of the book. Other collectors included in the book are Gordon Apker, Jon Shirley, Bruce Weiner, Gil Nickel, Malcolm Pray, Joaquin Folch and Robs Lamplough.
Lamplough, a pilot, has several aircraft in his collection, including a P-51 Mustang, Spitfire and Bucker Jungmeister. Terranova’s motorcycle collection is included, as well as that of Joaquin Folch, who also collects cars.
Leuthner has more than 35 years of experience in advertising, graphic design and publishing. He’s the author of “The Railroaders,” “Iron Men” and “High Honor,” and currently the creative director of “Watch and Clock Review” and “CHRONOS” magazines.
William Taylor has had a long career in commercial photography and has produced the photography for a wide range of automotive books, including “The Mathews Collection.” He’s based in London and Colorado.
